A Huge Event
What you need to know about Coachella
Coachella is a really huge festival taking place every year in Coachella Valley, near Indio City, California. It is held in the Empire Polo Club. It was co-founded by Paul Tollet and Rick Van Santen in 1999. Back in these days it only lasted one day but in 2002 it reverted to a two-day format and to three days format in 2007. Since 2003 people are allowed to camp on the floor.

What is so special about Coachella?
Only its co-founder can tell:

" Even before we looked at [Empire Polo Club], it hit us. We wanted it to be far. So you surrender. So you can't leave your house and see a couple bands and be back home that night. We want you to go out there, get tired, and curse the show by Sunday afternoon. That sunset, and that whole feeling of Coachella hits you."

Paul Tollet is also the CEO of Goldenvoice which is part of AEG Live, an American worldwide sporting and music entertainment producer, they promote Beyonce Concerts for instance.
AG bought several small local promoters in Los Angeles including Concerts West and Goldenvoice.
Goldenvoice had been founded by Gary Tovar who met Paul Tollett in 1986. They launched Coachella together but now Paul Tollet is the only one to run the second-largest event promoter in the United States.

In 2015 they sold 198. 000 tickets for a $84,264,264 total gross. This huge amount of money permits them to make the difference and host more and more people every year.
